Built over a quarry in an effort to create more green spaces in Paris, Parc Montsouris rests in the city’s 14th arrondissement, on the left bank of the Seine. Its 15 ha (37 acres) are a favorite among students from the adjacent Cité Universitaire.

Parc Montsouris was ordained by Napoleon III and Baron Haussmann in the 19th century and was designed as a proper English garden, a style that became highly popular during that time.

It features a tiny lake in its lower part that attracts the most varied wildlife, especially wild duck, geese, herons and other migratory birds. Florida turtles can be easily found on the lake’s stony shores.

Its vegetation is rich and plentiful, with over 150 different species of trees and shrubs. Parc Montsouris also carries a varied array of bronze and marble statues to please any art-lover taking a stroll through its walkways. And its waterfalls, grottos, ramps, comfortable nooks and viewpoints give it just the right amount of picturesque features to truly enjoy a magical time.
