Located in Paris’ 7th arrondissement between the Eiffel Tower and the École Militaire, Parc de Champ du Mars is a large rectangular green space that was once used for military training.
It became public in 1780 and has ever since been witness to many of France’s most important national events. The Parc de Champ du Mars is also where Napoleon I chose to award decorations in 1804 and has been the setting of many world fairs.
Despite its size, one can easily stroll through its winding paths by lakes, ponds and grottoes, making it a relaxed pit-stop in the midst of furious attraction-visiting. Birdlife is common and birdwatchers might be thrilled to know what this is the only place in the city where tawny owls can be heard at night.
Whether you’re looking for a place to rest your legs or wish to muse away in one of Paris’ quaint green spaces, Parc de Champ du Mars will definitely give you a peaceful rest from the city’s vibrant and dynamic pace.
